My Mission

A Tragedy and a Lie.

As a nurse, my heart breaks watching patients face life-changing health decisions, overwhelmed, confused, gripped by fear, and feeling unheard in a complex health system. Family members feel powerless as they watch their loved ones suffer, not knowing what to do. Patients are not powerless, this is a lie. We may not be able to change all of healthcare, but we can take advantage of the rules and rights it gives us to own our health decisions. Healthcare doesn’t have to own our life, but with the right knowledge and tools we can own our healthcare.

People don’t realize the power they hold to take charge of their health decisions. Doctors don’t control the health decisions—patients do. Their doctor provides guidance, but the patient is the captain making the final decisions. My mission is to simplify the body, health and healthcare, empowering people to confidently take control of their medical choices. To expose the healthcare system and show you how to use it.

For the past 10 years, I’ve worked as a registered nurse specializing in emergency care, oncology (cancer), autoimmune conditions, and blood disorders. I’ve witnessed both the resilience and the suffering of patients and their families. Those experiences have shaped me as a nurse and as a person—and I can’t think of a better way to honor my patients than to share the lessons they’ve taught me, so others can be empowered and avoid preventable harm.

The Problem

Let’s face it, people aren’t browsing the CDC and NIH websites to learn about their health and then discussing it with their doctor. Social media, Google and AI lead people to make decisions without their doctor. When it comes to working with a doctor, people don’t know how to make the most of those 15-20 minutes they have with them. Patients many times leave feeling defeated, unheard and without a solution to their problem. This is because they did not know how to talk to them and what questions to ask. But the doctors are the gate keepers. They order tests, diagnose problems, and offer solutions based on evidence. We need to learn how to work with them, to help them help us.

There are people who do exactly that, they are called patient advocates. They attend doctor visits and help make sure patients are heard and that their rights and will are respected. Unfortunately, most insurance plans don’t cover this service, and people often have to pay out of pocket—sometimes as much as $150-$200 an hour. These costs quickly add up, making advocates unaffordable for many who need them most. Healthcare and health insurance are already expensive enough! My goal is to create a place where patients can access the knowledge they need to advocate for their health and their family’s health. Where they can learn it all in a single day — for less than the cost of hiring a patient advocate for one hour. I believe it is possible.

What I am Building

I’m developing a platform to share resources and connect patients with the tools they need to work with their doctors. I use social media to create engaging health education content and share free resources and tools through a website to help people own their healthcare. This empowers people to:

  • Feel confident in their health decisions
  • Be in control of their health decisions
  • Make informed health decisions that align with their goals and values
  • Know what questions to ask their doctor
  • Understand their diagnosis
  • Know their rights and how to enforce them
  • Know where they are in the process of medicine and what to expect next
  • Have a general understanding of the body
  • Know how to say “no” to their doctor respectfully
  • Know what their doctor is saying
  • Help their doctor teach them
  • Know who to call if they run out of options

I’m building this as a mission-driven business designed to provide free and affordable resources so that self-advocacy is within reach for everyone, not just those who can afford private patient advocates.

How You Can Help

Right now, I’m working 50 to 60 hours a week between the hospital and pouring everything I’ve got into this project. I am creating content, filming for hours after long shifts. Otherwise, I am writing, scripting videos, illustrating, editing, creating resources, managing social media, and building the website from scratch. It’s a lot, but I believe in it. Below you can help by donating to my GoFundMe. Your support will let me outsource work, bringing these critical resources to patients sooner. Your donation would also help me dedicate more time and energy to creating health education content—videos, courses, and resources—while also helping cover business expenses, insurance and living costs that make this work possible. While most of the resources will be free, the goal is to make these resources affordable and accessible. For some, affordable is still too much. Once comprehensive resources are launched, donations will be used to sponsor individuals who need financial assistance. With your help, I believe we will save lives, empower patients and prevent harm. Thank you for your consideration!
