Get ready because these stories you will discover are not few and far in between. Unfortunately it is going to seem like it is almost every day practice. So as we were researching, we discovered this story where a Woman sues Anthem Blue Cross for denying hepatitis C drug Harvoni.
Okay, so wait a minute before we get into this, let’s step back. If someone has a chronic illness or any type of illness and they are seeing a doctor, if the doctor prescribes a certain medication (because he’s the expert); shouldn’t the insurance cover it? If the patient has taken a strong ownership of their health and has done some research as to the type of medications and even maybe alternative steps to getting a cure, shouldn’t the insurance company be working WITH THEM versus Against them?
We are all about being solution oriented. Let’s solve the health challenge, not band aid it. We digress now back to this particular story.
This particular post focus’ on a 42 year old West Hollywood woman who has hepatitis C. She’s apparently done the research and knows there’s a drug on the market that could aid in her fight and essentially kill the virus. What’s the name of the drug… Harvoni.
Why can’t she get it? Her insurance company says she is not sick enough!! Woaaaaa!!! Instead of them saying, we recognize that hepatitis C was caught at an early age and let’s help you get well, the story says oh you are not sick enough so it is not medically necessary.

We will continue to follow this story as much as we can to see what the outcome is. Apparently, this 42 year old is far from the only one that Anthem Blue Cross has denied. Seems to be common practice.
This is why CONSUMERS must become their own advocate especially when it comes to their health. It is YOUR LIFE… FIGHT FOR IT!!
