The purpose of Obamacare was to reduce the number of uninsured Americans. When we first began our study there was 58 million UNINSURED Americans. After the first enrollment period was all said and done there was roughly 6.9 million that became insured. There were people who were happy to have health insurance for the first time and there were others that became uninsured who originally had insurance.
As the second enrollment period opened, we began watching what was happening. Of course the commercials began about the enrollment period would open on November 15, 2014 and end on February 15, 2015. The push would be on to get people insured.
Lo and behold, there we were about a week ago doing our regular study of what was happening in the world of health insurance and medicine and we see this story…. you know we were captivated at the title – 42 Million Americans have UNPAID Medical Bills.
Stop!! You have people who now have health insurance for the first time to the tune of approximately 6.9 million and YET, there are 42.9 million Americans with UNPAID medical bills. This leads us to believe that number encompasses people who are insured versus uninsured. Granted there may be some who are uninsured yet we don’t think that is the majority.
Clearly, that tells us we all know someone whether they have openly told you or not. Unpaid medical bills can end up on credit reports and at collection agencies.
