Is this a shock to us? Not necessarily because from all of the studying Dr. Wagner has done on Obamacare, many of the Co-ops were losing money and other insurance companies were losing money. The co-ops who were struggling the most closed. Some of the insurance companies have stopped offering individual policies on the exchange. News flash: Are you reading this? When you purchased health insurance did you think everything was in the clear and you were safe? Did you make the insurance your only plan for taking care of your health? Where would you be if the insurance company finally said, we are not going to pay for this medication or this procedure?
I want you to take a look at the two news stories I have pulled:
- United Health Says It Should Have Avoided Obamacare Longer
- Half of Insurers on Indiana Obamacare are Losing Money
The second story alone talks about Assurant who pulled out because they lost money. It talked about Lousiville Humana pulling out because it lost money. The list goes on and on about companies that have lost. It does reveal some companies that have done well. However, I like to look at the BIG PICTURE. The media tends to paint this picture of everything is roses and strawberries when in REALITY that is not the truth. There are people whose plans are being cancelled, people who are going to the doctor and doctors are not taking care of them because they can’t be assured they will be paid the claim once it is filed and there are some brokers who are not being paid for business put on the books.
Imagine what could happen if UnitedHealth which is one of the LARGEST insurers pull out of the health care exchange. Do you know how many more will follow? This could have grave consequences for those who have gotten health insurance through the exchange. It wouldn’t matter if it was UnitedHealth or someone else if they all start pulling out like a domino effect.
Have you looked at your current health insurance plan? Do you know how solid they are on the healthcare exchange? How solid are they in providing referrals, medications and even general appointments? Do you realize, it is up to you to TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH? It is not the insurance company’s responsibility even though you may have health insurance.
