As I was doing some research because we’ve been sharing about being sucker punched and salaries, we thought why not see what is happening in the world of prescription drugs. Lo and behold, we didn’t know we’d be in for such an eye opening discovery. Every time my husband and I see this different stories during the day, we feverishly send each other a message saying did you see this.
I am surprised that I don’t remember him sending this one. However, it is never a dull moment when it comes to health insurance and what is happening to people. So let’s put it on the table. Our latest find is titled “Some Americans pay up to 10 times more for common drugs, survey shows.”
Before I even delve into that it reminds me of a post I read in one of the groups I belong to on Facebook. This lady was sharing how her husband had to get some medication and where they live, he paid $30 out of pocket. When he took a business trip, he needed to get a refill of that same medication (granted I don’t recall how much time was in between when he originally got it and needed the refill). Look at this though at the Walmart where he was on vacation the same medication was $4.
Stop the press!! Who prices these medications? What type of insurance does he have that says it can cost that much less in a different city and it is the same med?
Let’s get to the news story, Consumer Reports survey finds varying prescription drugs across the country!! Wait a minute. This article starts off saying Americans spent $374 billion on prescription drugs last year. Stop!! Hold on!! I need people to get healthy. That is infuriating.
Do this exercise for us – If you are reading this, I want you and three of your friends to look calculate how much medication you take from month to month, what the cost is and total it up for the year. Are you part of the $374 billion dollars that was spent?
One of the examples they gave was Cymbalta ranging from $249 at Waglreens with a discount to $43 at Costco that was only a few miles away!
