It’s the beginning of July! Let’s get this started. Can you save money using a discount plan instead of health insurance? I was too excited to go through the first half of the year and calculate how much money we SAVED using my discount plan instead of my husband’s health insurance.
The chart below will share what we pay monthly for our discount plan and what expenses we had during the month for dental, vision or even medical care.
January – July 2016 $150.00 per month x 7 = $1,050
May – $222.00 – Dental visits for twins instead of $494 (Saved $275)
June – $120.00 – Urgent Care instead of $160 – ER costs $350
Meds: $72.00 instead of $110
Cost of MRI: $520.00 instead of $2,000
Plan costs $150.00 x 7 = $1050
Amount paid for services – $414
*We opted not to do the MRI. We can always go back and do it if we choose to!!
If I take what we’ve paid monthly to include July + Amount we’ve paid for services – Amount we’ve paid is $1,464.
Let’s look at it IF we had only USED Health Insurance and NO Discounts
*Traditional insurance for our family is $800 a month. $800 x 7 = $5,600
January – July 2016 $800 x 7 = $5,600 (doesn’t include deductible)
May – $494.00 – Dental visits for twins
June – $350.00 – ER costs
Cost of MRI: $2,000
Cost here is $8,554
Discount plan + Services = $1,464
Health Insurance + Services = $6,554 (Didn’t include MRI)
Health Insurance costs minus Discount Plan
$6,554 – $1,464 = $5,090 (Amount we saved for the first half of 2016)
The plan I have you can get now for $39.95 per month for a household. (There are some changes to the plan)*
