Remember a few posts ago when we were talking about going to the dentist? We can’t begin to tell you the countless number of stories we have read that end with someone dying because of a toothache and they needed some medicine and couldn’t get it because they didn’t have insurance. Or they didn’t know the toothache could cause infection. There was a story back in 2011, where this young man who was 24 years old got an infection from a toothache, it caused his brain to swell and he died.
There was a more recent story back in May of 2014 where a man died after suffering a blood infection that resulted from a tooth infection. Let us share this, if you have an inner knowing especially when you have a toothache that something may not be right – GO to a dentist. Last year, Dr. Taffy had a toothache. So the first day or so it wasn’t bad. She has a high tolerance for pain and thought nothing of it. On that Friday, evening she was having some pain and thought, oh yea, Orajel is the answer.
Saturday morning it became obvious there was more to it because her face had begun to swell. Not only did her face swell, the pain was unbearable and she spent the majority of that day in bed. She couldn’t even remember she could call a doctor with her plan. On Sunday morning, that was the key. Calling a doctor through her telemedicine plan to get some relief. They called in an antibiotic and that began giving her relief. She went to the dentist the next day. They told her once the swelling was down, they could extract the tooth. THE key was the ANTIBIOTIC first!!
A couple of days ago, we read a story about a young girl in Edmond who went to her dentist for a routine cleaning. Lo and behold the hygienist saw that her eyes looked yellow. Then she asked the dentist to check. Bottom line, the dentist told her mom. Mom took her to a doctor and they removed a grapefruit-size tumor.
