Have you ever had the birthday gift that keeps on giving? Seems Obamacare subsidies taxes are the one that keeps on giving. As much as people thought this was a one time gift at the beginning so they could get health insurance, it doesn’t seem to stop. The situation with the 1095-A’s seem to keep on being one of the biggest headaches that people were not ready for.
Hundreds of thousands got an incorrect 1095-A unbeknownst to them and filed their taxes. The IRS came back and said, this is wrong and you need to file an amendment. When people contacted their local healthcare exchanges, they were told it would be 30 days before they got a new one. Well for some people it has been 60 days if not more. Sure the IRS came back and said well for those who already filed with an incorrect 1095-A, we will not make you file a new return. Let’s just call it a wash per se.
Then they came back a second time and said we are going to expand the relief for the 1095-A filers. Yet people are continuing to get notices that they need to file a corrected tax return. Hold on… are people talking with one another that are working with the IRS and these health care exchanges? We would venture to say no!! Why? The deadline of April 15 is coming pretty fast and if people do not have the 1095-A, they will be required to file an extension.
Then there’s the group of people who already filed, expecting a return and it seems as if the returns are being held. People know they are getting a refund, was counting on that money for bills or whatever and they are being put in a situation they were not prepared for.
What we’d like to know is if Obamacare just had its fifth anniversary on March 23, 2015, didn’t the IRS have time to get prepared for it?
