Have you ever wondered what medications doctors get paid on the most? Or have you not ever thought the doctor was getting some form of payment for prescribing a certain medication?
Recently, we were watching a story on 60 Minutes and there was discussion about a cancer patient and what it costs for one of the drugs he was using. When we tell you we were surprised at the cost, he paid $13,702 for Rituxan. I was sitting there wondering how often did he have to take it. Was that a one time supply? Can you imagine having to pay $13,702 for a medication?
The last time you got a medication was it the brand name or the generic? One of the ways people can save money is by getting a generic. Sometimes there may not be a generic available. If that is the case, we recommend asking your doctor if he or she can provide you with some samples. There are times when they get them from the pharmaceutical companies. There is no harm in asking. All they can do is say no. Imagine what you may save in the beginning if they tell you yes.
Ready to see if any of the medications you take is on the list. Be sure and compare the medications on this list to what you take.
How many were you familiar with? I saw a couple that I have seen commercials on and don’t take. That makes me wonder, do people see certain medications on these commercials and go into the doctor request them? Things that make you go hmmm.
