The story that came out yesterday about low Obamacare numbers for the special enrollment. We can’t figure out why that would surprise people. Okay so the administration was thinking once people found out they had to pay a penalty this year for not having health insurance in 2014, they would gladly sign up during this period. Hmmm, seems as if they are in for an awakening.
We have always thought if the cost of health insurance was high in 2014 and more than likely the premium went up in 2015 (meaning it costs them more this year), then why would people enroll in something that had a monthly price they couldn’t afford. See it is not that people don’t want to take care of their health.. they don’t want to incur a bill to do so. For some that is exactly what it would be.
We have read the comments and have talked with people who have said it makes more sense to pay the penalty. The penalty is more affordable. Oh yea, we can attest to that because it is ONE TIME whereas you are talking about someone incurring a monthly premium that may not fit in with their budget. Let’s face it, it is not nearly as affordable as everyone was led to believe it was going to be.
If you were in a group of 10 of your friends, how many of them actually have health insurance? How many paid the penalty? How many knew about the exemptions and if they qualified? Check out the exemptions at www.healthcare.gov/exemptions . Don’t delay because you still could qualify for 2014 if you haven’t filed your taxes.
We firmly believe in everyone having a health care solution. What we do not agree with is people being placed in the position of having to choose between their mortgage or rent, putting food on their table or paying a monthly premium? That doesn’t make sense!!
