Have insurance? Think you are safe? Think that no matter what you get, the insurance company will pay for it? Would you be prepared if the insurance denies claim for this or that?
We recently discovered the story about Manny Alvarez, 23 year old college student. This student is fighting cancer and his insurance company!! Hold on, he has enough to deal with fighting for cancer. Now his insurance company too. Check out his story here:
When people are diagnosed with cancer, they expect their insurance will cover medications, tests, treatments and whatever else doctors prescribe. Just reading this story makes us infuriated as to how the insurance company can think so little of someone’s life because that is what it seems like.
Here’s what we wonder… how much has Manny paid in premiums and deductibles to the insurance company. Or is Manny covered by his parents health insurance and how much have the paid? Have they ever made a claim? When I think back to when I had traditional health insurance and I paid for years without even going to a doctor, it seems like money thrown out the window.
People pay for insurance to be in place for circumstances such as this. Then to be told NO… you are basically on your own. WOW!! I can’t say I wouldn’t be consulting an attorney. When you have insurance, you have a legal contract with the insurance company. You are paying a monthly premium.
If you look up what the purpose of health insurance explanation is as follows “It protects you and your family financially in the event of an unexpected serious illness or injury that could be very expensive”.
From that definition, seems like they are not living up to that explanation when it comes to Manny’s situation.
