Newsflash: Obamacare isn’t affordable for everyone! Nearly 1.6 million people drop Obamacare this year! Hold it!! We are talking people who signed up for it this year, that many had dropped by the end of March. What made them do it? Drum roll please….. the COST of the PREMIUMS!!
Should this be a surprise to people? I personally don’t think so. When I first began studying Obamacare several years ago, I shared how the rates would increase year after year. I am well aware people may feel pressured to get insurance because they don’t want to be penalized. Let me ask the question: What sense does it make to take on a monthly premium you know you can’t afford? What happens once you get behind in paying your monthly premium?
Now, not only do you have bills piling up, but people will have to face the music when it comes to other bills potentially getting behind. Here’s something else I noticed about this story, I didn’t see anyone talking about it. I found it because I do my best to remain updated. This positions me to talk about the subject as well as help those who don’t have anything save some money.
I wonder how those 1.6 million people feel since they don’t have health insurance? Were they even introduced to COBRA and decided it wasn’t for them? If they were individual policies and not through an employer, what was there recourse? Could they be penalized?
Are you someone reading this and had to drop your health insurance? Do you mind sharing with us what insurance plan it was and how much was the monthly investment? What will you do for 2017? Have you looked at what you spent for health insurance from January to December 2015?
Sometimes when I hear the news and they are preparing to talk about health insurance, I shake my head in “Wonder”. What do you think about 1.6 million people dropping their health insurance in March even after the enrollment period closed on Day 1.
